First and foremost, I am a Star Wars kid!
I’ve been a fan since the original movie came out in 1977 and my family would always get me Star Wars toys for birthdays and Christmas.
If you look closely under the TV, you can see I’ve been a video gamer just about as long as there have been video games. We had an Atari 2600 and later a 5200. A few years later I got my first computer: a TI-99/4A. It wasn’t long before I was editing hex sprites in a BASIC ripoff of Space Invaders to make the ships resemble an X-Wing and TIE Fighters. My dad would take me to the local bowling alley on Friday nights to play video games and I’m proud to say I can name about 90% of early 80s video games by sound alone.I didn’t get into the Nintendo craze until the Star Wars game came out, then I got my first credit card!
Many a Saturday afternoon was spent in front of the tube watching Creature Double Feature on WLVI 56. And from this came a lifelong love of cheesy sci-fi and horror movies, even better if they feature a giant monster, bug or spider.
And those movies are also likely the root of my other love: Halloween. Of course, most kids love Halloween anyway but as I got older I really started digging into the history and traditions of Halloweens past. Now I haunt the streets of Salem, MA every Halloween scaring locals and tourists alike.
I’m also slightly obsessed with things related to amusement parks and carnivals, especially dark rides. And somewhat related to carnivals and Halloween are the classic spook shows of years past. I’ve been to a modern one and it’s very cool but I still wish I could experience one like those I’ve read about.
I’m also a bit of an amateur shutterbug. The results of which you can see over on my Flickr page.
